AISI 316L Welded Stainless Steel Pipe for Dairy Processing

In the dairy industry, hygiene and corrosion resistance are paramount. AISI 316L welded stainless steel pipe has become the standard choice for transporting milk, cream, and other dairy products. This low-carbon austenitic grade offers superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in chloride-rich environments like those found during cleaning with acidic or alkaline sanitizers.

The “L” designation (low carbon, max 0.03%) minimizes carbide precipitation during welding, preserving intergranular corrosion resistance. This makes welded pipes as reliable as seamless ones, but more cost-effective and available in longer, consistent lengths. The weld seam, when properly processed through methods like orbital TIG welding under inert gas, produces a smooth, bead-free interior surface. This eliminates bacterial hiding spots and meets 3A sanitary standards.

316L’s non-reactive surface prevents product contamination, while its mechanical strength withstands high-pressure CIP (clean-in-place) and SIP (sterilize-in-place) cycles. Routine passivation maintains a protective oxide layer. For dairy processors, this pipe ensures product purity, reduced downtime, and long service life, making it an indispensable component in milking parlors, cheese vats, and pasteurization lines.
